Clinical Skills Lab

The Year 1 students completed their Phantom head study day on Wednesday 17th November 2021 (if you want to find out more about it, read Year 1 – Clinical Skills article) with the support of our two incredible Clinical Skills Dental Nurses, Adele (pictured on the left) and Natasha (on the right). A huge thank you to you both!

The Clinical Skills Lab is an instrumental part to our students learning where they get to practice implant placements and suture techniques on mannikin heads, all with support from Straumann.

Year 1 – Clinical Skills

Year 1 were in the Clinical Skills Lab on Wednesday 17th November 2021. This day was all about learning the drilling sequence and placing restoratively driven implants in a phantom head using a surgical guide. The models had latex gums so the students could practice retraction skills as well.

Grace organised most of the day…thank you!! We also had great help from Natasha and Adele in the CSL. Pratik Patel And Steph Dickinson are both MSc graduates and they kindly agreed to come and assist.

Year 2 Patient Consultations

Year 2 met their patients for the first time on 13 & 15th October 2021. See some photos of their first session:

Anna is examining her patient with her supervisor, Libby, in close attendance.

Richard is checking his patient’s oral hygiene with his supervisor, Pratik, looking on attentively.

The first clinical sessions went well and we are excited for what the rest of the year will bring. If you are interested in joining us next year, visit the MSc Dental Implantology page for more information on how to apply.
